Branding and identity design forGifted Girls, a non-profit focused on helping under privileged girls in the Chicago area to identify and develop necessary skills for success in business and life.
The Story
This project started with a stakeholder meeting to determine the needs and strategy of branding for the organization with consideration for its stated mission and goals. The art director and I put together a design brief that identified several key concepts that the identity would ideally communicate:
- Youthful Femininity
- Joy
- Generosity
- Fun
With the problem framed, I began researching local non-profits and other organizations intended to provide similar services.
Searching for a solution to the problem and researching were the first steps in the process. Sketching by trying to match the properties of the elements to the intended message was the next step. Sketching is a part of my process when designing anything. It is largely used to purge the typical and easy ideas. But it also allows me to explore broadly before deep diving into possible solutions.
Hand draw sketches were submitted to the client for review and discussion. From the hand drawings and feedback from the stakeholders, I moved to making digital comps from which the final design for the identity was chosen.
Once the final design was established, it was applied to the supporting materials.
